"To the world its music to us music is the World”

K h o i - s a n was formed when Romy and Carl created a unique song writing partnership several years ago in the South African suburb of Johannesburg. Influenced by many artists such as Sheryl Crow, Alana Davis, Chrissie Hinds and Gwen Stefani, Romy joined Carl; who was shaping his guitar style to the likes of Eric Clapton, Slash (GnR), Collective Soul and The Stereophonics.

In Feb 2003 Romy and Carl recruited drummer (Doug), bassist (Dave) and second guitarist (Alistair) who all shared the same passion for music.  All five influences were thrown in to the cooking pot and then left to simmer in the studio for several months.

This recipe led to the hard hitting, get up and shake your ass, yet often smooth and sensual sound that is making K h o i -s a n a favourite at many London venues. Recent radio play of ‘Imaginary Friend’ has generated a lot of interest outside of London, and the band are now finalising the tracks that will be featured on their debut album (due for release later this year), which will followed by a tour of many popular UK venues.

The name ‘Khoisan’ originates from the language of the ancient African tribes dating back tens of thousands of years. K h o i - s a n is now used to describe the traditional clicking’ language used by the San tribe (people different from ourselves) and the Khoikhoi’- translated to mean 'the real people' or 'men of men'.

 Quotes from Gigs:

“Brilliant... Great energy, great songs and a good looking bunch of people”

“ Get that band drinks – they were brilliant and must come back”

“When are you playing again, you’ve got a groupie”

"We believe the more you endure and strive for your  goals the stronger you become in realizing your dreams"
